Clark Bates

I began my ministry with McCook Christian Church in October of 1985. My wife Dawna and myself have four children. I am a graduate of Nebraska Christian College with a Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral Ministries and I hold a Master of Pracitical Ministries from Cincinnati Bible Seminary. I have a passion for preaching the gospel but also enjoy the challenges of every day ministry. I truely believe that at McCook Christian you will find believers with a heart for Christ and a heart for caring.

Jason Van Pelt

Family Background: I grew up near Indianola, NE. I am the youngest of three with a sister Leah, Sewell who is almost exactly a year older and a brother, Curt Van Pelt, who is two years older. After moving to Norfolk, NE to attend Bible College, I married my wife Kim in 1989. We have a son Spencer: age 11, and a daughter, Ariana: age 5.

Education: I have an Associate degree in Pastoral Ministries from Nebraska Christian College, an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electronics from Northeast Technical Community College, and a Certifiate in Recording Arts from The Recording School in Ohio.

Favorite Foods: pizza, strawberry shortcake, cherry pie

Hobbies: Fishing, Music (drums, guitar, songwriting), playing with my kids, hanging out with students

Favorite Bands or Artists: Switchfoot, Caedman's Call, Chris Tomlin

Favorite Bible Books: John, Psalms, Genesis, Ephesians, Isaiah

Favorite Color: Emerald Green, Walnut Brown, Black

Joys in Ministry: Seeing someone come to know Christ, Missions Trips, working with student leaders and helping them use their gifts.

I began my service here at the church June of 2005. It is such a blessing to be able to serve Christ and His church in this way. My favorite thing about being church secretary is being able to help those who come into the office, whether it be just sharing a hug or a smile or using the abilities God has given me to do a big project.

God has also given me a passion for teaching piano; the number of students He has given me continues to grow each year. Some other things I enjoy doing are babysitting, cross-stitching, spending time with family, and of course playing piano. I live at home with my parents, Chris and Leeann McCarty; my brothers Nathan, Matthew, and Joseph; and my sister (and best friend), Laura. I also have an older brother, Andrew who lives in California with my super-neat sister-in-law, Ginamarie.

As I began to write this short introduction I thought about all the autobiographical details in my life and realized that was very boring! Then I thought; boring is good! It means that we have been blessed with a very good life. Greg and I moved to McCook in 1971, and after having three children the need for a house with more room led us to Culbertson where we still live.

A few years ago the above mentioned three adult children decided it was time to move Mom and Dad into the age of technology and gave us a computer for Christmas. I took a beginning computer class at McCook Community College and I was hooked! I took several more classes and decided that using a computer is a lot of fun! So I began searching for a position that would allow me to use my rather limited computer knowledge. A good friend of mine suggested I contact McCook Christian Church because they were looking for a secretary. I was fortunate enough to be interviewed and hired, but this secretarial position is more than just a job. This is a way to serve a very loving God and a risen Savior, and to make a positive contribution in a congregation of His servants. With continued good health I look forward to being your afternoon secretary for many more years.
